As a kid one of my favorite series was Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy, which took a steampunk/biopunk take on World War I. For the front covers I decided to develop faux vintage photographs starring the most formidable vessels featured in the books, to give the whole concept
a more authentic touch. At the same time, because this
is a young adult series, I wanted to use an appealingly gritty, energetic font for the title that could still tie well
to the concept.
